Continuing with our Artisteer theme design tutorial, we explore the various ways you can design the background appearance by adding an image, glare or texture and filling the background with a solid color.

You can also adjust the background image appearance by altering the glare, texture and fill color. So even though you have a special image you want to use for the background, you can alter its appearance by applying some of the other menu choices.

How to Disable WordPress Autosave and Revisions

When WordPress is installed, the default settings for Autosave are set for saving a copy every 60 seconds. Unless you are writing your articles in another program such as Windows Live Writer or BlogDesk, you could end up with many copies of your post. The longer it takes you to write your article online, the more copies you will have.

If you leave that screen and come back later to edit the post, you might see a notice on the top of your screen telling you there is an Autosave that is newer than the saved copy.

Exploring the Artisteer Layout Menu

Continuing with the Artisteer tour to design WordPress themes, you can get overall layout ideas from using the Suggest Layout menu. There are limited layout designs from which to choose within the program. However, you can choose to have a header and menu on top, a header with no menu, a menu with no header, or no header or menu at all.

From there you can modify the individual areas within the layout using navigation bar options for the following areas:

  • Page Layout
  • Number of columns
  • Position of Columns
  • Search Block Position
  • Category Block Position
  • Archive Block Position
  • Blogroll Block Position

This video reviews all those options and gives you a preview of how changing each one will look when designing a WordPress theme. Watch the video and let me know what you think.
