In an effort to get a more rounded education on the blogging software available, I installed Windows Live Writer. By default it does not have a post slug editor, but it does have a plugin available on their site to change the post slug.
A post slug is what makes the permanent link (permalink) to your post. The permalink is the permanent link to your post. It is defined by the post slug, which is created by the post title. If you post your articles online with WordPress, you will see the post slug after you or WordPress save a draft. There will be an option to edit it at the top of your editing box.

The title is also what shows up in the search engine results pages when people search for various topics. Below that will be the description you write to further explain the page or article contents.
WordPress and other blogging platforms make the page heading, page title and post slug the same automatically. These all service different purposes and can be changed.
