What is a Global WorkStation?
For those who travel for business or pleasure and have a laptop computer, the world of mobile communications is not new. You may be connecting to a wireless network in a hotel or use Wi-Fi for connecting to a cellular line. Most hotels have wireless networks that you can lease access to for the period of your stay.
Large corporations have provided access to their networks from remote workstations for a long time. However, the average person hasn’t had access like that in the past without leaving their computer on and paying for a service that allows them to access their home computer.
Sharing files over the Internet from remote locations requires you to keep copies of the documents you need on your laptop. But what happens when you forget to copy a document or file to your laptop before going on your trip? Suppose that file is a presentation you are scheduled to perform for a prospective client. How will you get that file after you are at your destination?
Cell phones will not resolve your problem. Having remote storage is the answer for those who do traveling sales or service calls, or for people who do not have a laptop. Imagine having the ability to store your important files and documents on a remote server, with access to them from anywhere there is Internet access.
Not only can you access the files, you can also manage your business and personal contacts online. Schedule and track projects and tasks, or assign them to someone else in your work group, all from a secure environment. Someone with an account can even transfer files to you, no matter where you are.
The security is banking strength, meaning everything from project management, instant messaging and email are all encrypted with encryption software that banks use.
There are two sides to this - business and personal. Both share some of the same features. On the personal side, you can chat with your friends with a built-in Instant Messenger, listen to music, watch movies, share files all through the same secure, encrypted environment that the business side uses.
The software I am referring to is called COIL® and is offered by a company in Greece named Kanosis. The team of professionals have been working on building the COIL® software for a long time and are years ahead of others like Microsoft, who are trying to get into the remote workstation business.
For a small monthly fee, you have unlimited access to all the functions and features that are offered. Updates are done automatically when you log in. If updates are available, they will be downloaded and installed for you. Very little space is required to store the Java files that run the Kanosis/COIL® software.
Did you know that you can use your laptop on cellular lines? You can broaden your access ranges through the use of “Hot Spots” which are similar to roaming on your cell phone. The service searches for the nearest access point to you and allows you to connect to it. Using Hot Spots, you can use your laptop even while riding in a car.
If you prefer a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) instead, you can get this capability too. Once you purchase a PDA through the link below, you will get rebates in cash and certificates that exceed the purchase price. You will also have access to your Kanosis/COIL® account from ANYWHERE! Now that’s a Global WorkStation!
