WordPress SEO Tips Using BlogDesk
How to Improve WordPress SEO with BlogDesk
Thanks to Bill Cobb for introducing me to BlogDesk! After watching the video on WPtutorial.com, Using Blog Desk to post your blog, I downloaded and installed BlogDesk to see how it would help me compose, post and manage WordPress blog articles.
The first time I used BlogDesk, what I saw missing were the header tags from a drop-down menu. That is not really a problem though because they can be added manually using the “Insert HTML” option.
Header tags are important for SEO and for reading. For SEO, they signify the importance of the section. Header tags also make reading easier by separating your page into sections.
Since WordPress adds the H1 tag for the blog title, I use the next one, H2 for the post title. Then for sub-sections, I use H3 to separate and highlight the various sections.
Since BlogDesk adds the H2 header tag for the post title, you can still add that in other places in the post. In case you want to know how to do that, here is a quick way to improve your writing and SEO.
- In the document, click just to the left of the line you want to change. Then on the menu, click the yellow icon with 2 triangles. The help tip will say “Insert HTML“. A box opens to put anything you want in there.
- Type: <h2>
- When you click Ok, the line will be converted to the heading and the heading tag closed automatically.
- If you make a mistake or change your mind, the only way I see to change it is to view the source.
- The “Insert HTML” box is also where you would add other things, such as video. Once you add it, you can use the preview screen (View > Preview) to see how it looks.
Here are some custom fields you can add to improve visibility to your article. These are added in the Extras > WordPress Options box.
title : Your post title (keyword-rich descriptive title)
description : briefly describe the content of your article using the primary content keywords.
robots : index,follow,archive
keywords : the main keywords you want your article found with
distribution : Global (or Private)
rating : SAFE FOR KIDS (over 18, adults only)
resource-type : document (not required but useful)
MSSmartTagsPreventParsing : true (prevents linking words to ads unless you approve it)
I like the minimalistic design of BlogDesk and the option to save posts locally before posting them. That way I can tweak them, save and come back later to complete them, before posting online.
I hope that helps with your article writing!
